2009 December 27th – Structure Fire 2161 Woodcock

December 27, 2009

Sequim, Washington

12-27-2009 Exterior

Clallam County Fire District 3 was dispatched at 1:30 P.M., December 27, 2009 to a single family house fire located at 2161 Woodcock Road.  Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames visible from the kitchen window on the 1200 square foot single story home.  Smoke was also coming from the eves, above the kitchen area.

A firefighter from Seattle was passing by the residence, saw smoke and flames and knocked on the front door to alert any possible occupants but there was no response from inside the house.

The initial engine crew began a fire attack from the kitchen window, and when sufficient personnel arrived they continued with an interior fire attack on the kitchen area.  The fire was confined to the kitchen, which sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.

A primary search was also conducted and search crews located an unconscious dog belonging to the resident, Sean Taylor.   After bringing the dog outside, fire personnel attempted modified CPR with oxygen and chest compressions, but were unable to revive the animal, who succumbed to it’s injuries.

The house is owned by the Jamestown Skallam Tribe and was rented to Mr. Taylor.

Two engines, two Water Tenders, an Paramedic Aid Unit, Chief Steven Vogel, and a Rescue Truck all responded from 3 Fire District 3 stations.  Traffic control was provided by Clallam County Sheriff Deputy Andrew Wagner, Olympic Ambulance sent a unit to stand by and PUD dispatched a truck to turn off power to the residence.

Over 14 firefighters were involved in this emergency response.

Chief Vogel was the Incident Commander, and Lt. Chris Turner directed firefighting operations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and results will be made available when  this process is complete.
